United States Test Preparation
Which U.S. test preparation classes does Presidio Education® offer?
Presidio Education® offers expert-led test preparation classes for a variety of major U.S. exams. Our classes are designed to build academic skills, strengthen test-taking strategies, and help students earn top scores with confidence.
We currently offer preparation for:
Each class includes personalized instruction, high-quality study materials, and support from experienced educators to ensure meaningful results and long-term success.
Should I take the ACT or the SAT?
Choosing between the ACT and SAT depends on each student’s academic strengths, learning style, and long-term goals. Both tests are accepted by colleges and universities in the United States, and families should carefully consider which option best suits their child. At Presidio Education®, we guide students and parents through this decision-making process — and offer expert preparation for both exams.
That said, we strongly recommend the ACT for most students. The SAT, developed by the U.S.-based organization College Board, is a widely recognized exam — especially in Asia — but the ACT offers a more consistent and strategic testing experience. For example, the ACT Reading section always follows the same passage order: prose fiction, social science, humanities, and natural science. This predictable format makes the test easier to train for and helps students build confidence through repetition. In contrast, SAT Reading passages appear in random order, and the distribution of topics can vary from test to test, making it harder for students to prepare with certainty.
Additionally, the ACT includes an optional Writing Test, which gives students a chance to demonstrate real writing and analytical skills — something the SAT no longer offers. For students applying to competitive undergraduate programs in the United States, the ACT Writing Test can help showcase academic maturity and strong communication skills in a way that multiple-choice sections cannot.
While the ACT may feel more approachable, its academic rigor is equal to that of the SAT. It’s not an easier test — just a more structured one that gives well-prepared students a clear path to high performance.
How many classes do I need for my ACT target score?
The number of classes depends on each student’s current skill level in English grammar, reading comprehension, math, science reasoning, and writing. It also depends on how much time and effort a student is willing to commit, both in and outside of class. Time management, consistency, and accountability all play a major role in reaching a high score.
Even if your starting score is lower than expected, we’ve helped students go from struggling to earning near-perfect or perfect ACT scores in just a few months — but this requires serious commitment. Students must complete assignments on time, follow feedback carefully, and stay fully engaged throughout the training process. When that happens, the results can be truly exceptional.
Is the ACT Writing Test required?
The ACT Writing Test is officially optional, but requirements vary by college. Some undergraduate programs still recommend or require students to submit the ACT essay, so it's important to check each school’s admissions policy carefully.
Even when it's not required, we strongly encourage students to prepare for the ACT Writing Test. Unlike multiple-choice sections, the essay provides colleges with a more objective measure of a student’s critical thinking, writing ability, and English communication skills. A strong ACT essay can demonstrate academic maturity and set an applicant apart — especially at competitive universities. It’s a valuable opportunity to showcase your ability to analyze, structure arguments, and express ideas clearly under timed conditions.
How many classes do I need for my SAT target score?
The number of SAT classes you'll need depends on your current performance in English grammar, reading comprehension, and math. Every student starts from a different place, and we carefully evaluate skills across all tested areas to build a personalized plan that targets the exact gaps holding you back.
While some students may begin with strong foundations, others may need more time to strengthen core concepts and build speed and accuracy. That said, we’ve helped students make dramatic improvements — even reaching perfect or near-perfect SAT scores — in just a few months. However, results depend on consistent effort, time management, and a no-excuses approach to homework and practice. When students stay focused and follow our program, the score gains speak for themselves.
Does the SAT Essay still exist?
No — the College Board officially discontinued the SAT Essay in July 2021. As a result, students no longer have the option to demonstrate their writing and analytical skills through the SAT.
This change is one reason many students — especially those who want to highlight their strengths in critical thinking, written communication, and argument-based analysis — consider taking the ACT instead. The ACT still offers an optional Writing Test, which gives students a chance to demonstrate their writing skills in a way that multiple-choice sections cannot. For students applying to top-tier colleges, this can be an excellent way to stand out in a competitive applicant pool.

Do I need to take an AP class at school to take the AP exam?
No. High school students are not required to be enrolled in a school-based AP course to take the official AP exam in May. Many students choose to self-study or prepare through outside programs like Presidio Education®, especially if their school doesn’t offer a specific subject or if they prefer a more personalized learning experience.
What does it mean to self-study for an AP exam?
Self-studying means that a high school student prepares for an Advanced Placement (AP) exam outside of their school’s AP classes. Instead of enrolling in a school-based AP course, students receive private instruction or tutoring from trained professionals — like those at Presidio Education® — to master the subject and prepare for the official AP exam in May.
What type of English skills are required for Advanced Placement (AP) exams?
Success on Advanced Placement (AP) exams requires more than just subject-specific knowledge. Across nearly all AP subjects, students are expected to demonstrate strong English language skills and advanced critical thinking abilities—both of which are essential for interpreting complex questions, constructing well-supported arguments, and articulating ideas clearly under timed conditions. The key English skills required include:
Critical Thinking and Analytical Reasoning: AP exams assess a student’s ability to evaluate sources, identify patterns, draw inferences, and build cohesive arguments. This includes:
- Analyzing cause and effect relationships
- Comparing and contrasting perspectives
- Synthesizing information from multiple sources
- Drawing evidence-based conclusions
Reading Comprehension: Many AP exams include passages, data sets, or source materials that students must analyze. Being able to read closely, understand academic language, and extract key information quickly is essential for responding accurately to both multiple-choice and free-response questions.
Vocabulary and Language Fluency: A broad and precise vocabulary helps students better understand exam questions and express ideas clearly and concisely in written responses. This is particularly important in AP exams that require analytical essays or responses to prompts, such as in AP U.S. History, AP Environmental Science, or AP Psychology.
Writing Skills: Nearly every AP exam includes a written component, whether it’s a short-answer, document-based question, or full essay. Students must be able to: This includes:
- Developing a clear, focused thesis statements
- Structuring your argument effectively
- Using evidence to support your points
- Maintaining a formal, academic tone
- Proofreading for grammar, punctuation, and clarity
At Presidio Education®, our AP exam preparation classes are specifically designed to help students strengthen these essential writing and critical thinking skills. We provide personalized instruction and practice that focuses on building reading comprehension, vocabulary, and advanced writing techniques. Our expert educators ensure students are fully prepared to tackle the challenges of the AP exams with confidence.
How long should I train for the Advanced Placement (AP) exams?
For Advanced Placement (AP) semester and full-year subjects, we recommend beginning training at least three months before the start of the school year, typically over the summer, to ensure a solid foundation. Regardless of whether the course is a semester or full-year subject, all material must be completed by the end of December. This ensures students have plenty of time to focus on review and diagnostic tests (DTs) in the spring semester.
Starting in January, students will be able to concentrate solely on refining their test-taking strategies, improving writing skills, and addressing any gaps in knowledge — without the pressure of learning new material. Our goal is to finish all content before the spring, so we can focus exclusively on polishing students’ skills and preparing them for success on the May AP exams.
How do Presidio Education® students perform after AP training?
Our students consistently achieve top academic results — both in school and on official Advanced Placement (AP) exams. With the right mindset, consistent effort, and commitment to our structured training plans, nearly all of our students earn perfect A grades in their high school AP classes and score a 5 — the highest possible score — on their official College Board AP exams.
These results come from a proven formula: strategic instruction, strict practice, and timely homework completion. When students follow our approach and stay accountable, their academic growth is both measurable and long-lasting. That’s why many of our AP teachers are fully booked three to four months in advance — families know that Presidio Education® delivers results.
Please take a moment to read our student reviews — their success stories speak for themselves.
How do AP scores help with college applications?
High Advanced Placement (AP) scores significantly enhance a student’s college application profile. Earning strong AP scores shows academic discipline, college-level critical thinking, and advanced writing skills — all of which are qualities that top colleges and universities in the United States and United Kingdom look for in applicants.
In many cases, high AP scores can also earn undergraduate course credit or allow students to place out of introductory college classes, giving them a head start in their university studies. That’s why many families choose Presidio Education® — to help their child build a competitive edge through strategic AP preparation.
Are all AP exams considered equal by colleges?
No — not all Advanced Placement (AP) exams are viewed the same way. While all APs offer academic value, colleges and universities often consider the subject difficulty when reviewing applications. That means admissions officers do look at whether a student took more rigorous, writing-heavy APs or opted for subjects that are generally perceived as less demanding.
At Presidio Education®, we believe the most challenging APs are those that require strong writing and reasoning skills, especially in Section 2 Free-Response Questions (FRQs). Unlike subjects like math or science — which typically have one correct answer — AP English and humanities exams demand complex interpretation, critical thinking, and argumentation. There’s no clear right or wrong; what matters is how well the student thinks, writes, and defends their point of view.
In fact, we consider AP English Language and Composition one of the hardest AP exams offered. It's consistently one of the most widely taken APs worldwide, yet year after year, it also has one of the lowest average scores. That’s because success on this exam requires exceptional discipline, advanced time management, and high-level writing skills. Through our targeted training, Presidio Education® students routinely earn perfect AP 5 scores in this notoriously difficult subject.
Choosing the right combination of APs — and mastering the hardest ones — can be the key difference between getting accepted or overlooked by top colleges. That’s why families turn to Presidio Education® to help students build a strategic, results-driven academic plan.
Educational Consultation
What educational consultation services does Presidio Education® provide?
Presidio Education® offers comprehensive educational consultation services to help students build a competitive academic profile for college and university admissions — especially for selective institutions in the United States and United Kingdom.
Our consultation services include:
- Strategic planning for academic portfolios and course selection
- Guidance on choosing the right list of target, reach, and safety schools
- Creative support for building meaningful extracurricular projects
- Expert coaching for writing personal statements, Common App essays, and UCAS statements
- Ongoing mentorship throughout the application timeline
Whether you're just starting high school or getting ready to submit applications, Presidio Education® helps families make smart, long-term decisions that align with each student’s academic goals.
How does Presidio Education® help students with college application essays?
At Presidio Education®, we specialize in training students to write powerful, original, and authentic college application essays — but we do not write essays for students under any circumstances.
Our role is to coach, teach, and guide. We provide detailed feedback on structure, tone, grammar, analytical clarity, and overall storytelling. We help students learn how to write compelling, thoughtful, and strategically crafted essays that reflect their true voice — whether it’s for the Common App, UCAS, or supplemental school-specific prompts.
We understand that students — especially those applying to top-tier universities in the United States and United Kingdom — feel enormous pressure to stand out. However, we firmly uphold the principles of academic honesty and intellectual integrity. We work with families who value the same.
That means:
- We will never plagiarize nor ghostwrite
- We expect students to do their own writing
- We provide expert instruction, not shortcuts
To succeed in our essay training program, students must start early, remain open to constructive feedback, and be prepared to revise — typically multiple times — to get the draft right. With the right attitude and commitment, our students consistently produce essays that are both authentic and admissions-ready.
Are the ACT and SAT still important for college admissions?
Yes — while some colleges and universities in the United States have made the ACT and SAT optional, many still require or strongly consider these standardized test scores as part of the admissions process. Policies vary widely depending on the school, so families must check the specific requirements for each university.
At Presidio Education®, we encourage students to prepare for either the ACT or SAT — even if a school is test-optional. Strong scores can still strengthen an application, support academic credibility, and improve chances of acceptance at competitive institutions. For students applying to selective or specialized programs, high scores remain especially valuable.
Our ACT and SAT programs are designed to help students earn top scores in just a few months with the right effort, discipline, and training. Contact us to learn which test best fits your goals and how we can help.
Why should students regularly volunteer?
At Presidio Education®, we believe that volunteering is more than just an extracurricular activity — it’s a reflection of character. We actively encourage our students to give back to their communities, not simply to enhance their college applications, but because compassion, empathy, and civic responsibility matter.
We proudly donate time, resources, and funding to support charities, orphaned and impoverished children, and the homeless — and we expect our students to share in that spirit of service. Whether at home or abroad, meaningful volunteer work teaches students how to connect with others, think beyond themselves, and grow as responsible global citizens.
Colleges and universities — especially in the United States and United Kingdom — want applicants who are authentic, community-driven, and genuinely invested in making a difference. Admissions officers can tell when volunteer work is simply “padding”. What stands out most are students who consistently show real commitment to causes they care about.
Through guided mentorship and long-term planning, Presidio Education® helps students identify purposeful, lasting service opportunities that reflect both who they are and who they aspire to become.
How should students prepare for undergraduate school?
Successful preparation for undergraduate admissions goes far beyond just good grades. While students must aim for strong academic performance — including a high grade point average (GPA), stellar Advanced Placement (AP) scores, and competitive ACT or SAT results — top colleges also expect to see depth, purpose, and initiative in every part of the student’s profile.
At Presidio Education®, we guide students to focus on both:
- Tangible achievements: rigorous coursework, top test scores, and academic consistency
- Intangible strengths: meaningful extracurriculars, creative projects, leadership roles, and long-term community service
Admissions officers at elite universities in the United States and United Kingdom want to see well-rounded applicants who can balance academic excellence with personal growth, curiosity, and character. That’s why we also mentor students on how to build standout portfolios, write compelling essays, and pursue activities that reflect genuine passion — not just résumé fillers.
The earlier students begin this process, the more time they have to grow, reflect, and make purposeful decisions. Presidio Education® helps students prepare not just to get into the best schools — but to thrive once they’re there.
How should students prepare for graduate school?
Preparing for graduate school admissions requires a combination of strong academic credentials, real-world experience, and focused test preparation. At a minimum, students applying to graduate programs in the United States or abroad should begin preparing early for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) — the most commonly required standardized test across disciplines.
Beyond test scores, competitive graduate programs value applicants who demonstrate:
- Meaningful internships that reflect industry or academic relevance
- Research experience, such as publishing papers or assisting with faculty-led studies
- Professional work experience related to the intended graduate field
- Strong letters of recommendation and a compelling personal statement
At Presidio Education®, we help students approach graduate admissions with clarity and strategy. From GRE preparation and academic writing support to personal statement development and long-term admissions planning, our goal is to help students present a graduate application that reflects both intellectual capability and real-world readiness.

Taking part in CSR projects not only supports important communities—it also helps students grow as leaders and build meaningful experiences for college applications.
What is the Sustainability Project Competition (SPC)?
The Sustainability Project Competition (SPC) is a global research and writing initiative led by Presidio Education®, designed to challenge high school students to address real-world environmental and social issues through academic research, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving.
Open to both domestic and international students, the SPC encourages participants to explore complex topics such as climate change, public health, educational equity, and environmental justice. Students conduct formal academic research, write structured research papers, and present their findings through storytelling formats such as videos, infographics, and live presentations.
This competition is not held annually, but is organized at the discretion of our Sustainability Team based on program availability and project scope.
By participating, students strengthen their English writing, analytical reasoning, and public speaking skills — while building competitive academic portfolios that showcase leadership and civic responsibility.
